Why you should use sunscreen all year round

Sunscreen SPF50

You may believe that you can decide if you should wear sunscreen or not by peeking out the window. Turns out it’s not that simple. Keep reading as we take you through some of the reasons why you should benefit from the amazing properties of SPF throughout every season.

How sunscreen protects you and your skin

Sunscreen. You know it’s important, but do you know why? It actually turns out that sunscreen can be considered as quite a superhero. Most of us have experienced sunburns and know that they’re no joke. Both the feel and look of them is, shall we say, unpleasant.

Sunburns usually occur after too much exposure to ultraviolet light, AKA UV. In the short term, they’re horrible to deal with because they hurt, irritate, and make our skin itchy. But in the long term, too much UV exposure is also one of the top sinners when it comes to signs of premature aging on the skin. Meaning, too much fun in the sun can cause your skin to harden, become wrinkly, uneven, and develop fine lines over time – unless you’re well protected with SPF. Sunburns can also possess an even greater danger, as they can build up and raise the risk of skin cancer. All in all: It’s never worth skipping SPF.

To many, this is not breaking news. And most of us do try to coat our skin with a protective layer of sunscreen as soon as the temperatures hit bathing-suit season. What most don’t seem to know is that there’s a very good reason why you should enrich your skin with sunscreen - every single day.

Why your sunscreen should be a purse-essential - always

It might feel contradicting to apply sunscreen when the sun is nowhere to be spotted in the sky. Many don’t let their sunscreen leave the deepest and darkest corners of their cabinet – even during summertime – because they aren’t fond of the texture or color it leaves on their skin. But there’s a very good reason why your sunscreen deserves a spot on your skincare shelf every day.

While it’s tempting to believe that the UV rays disappear when it’s cloudy, raining, or snowing, this is far from true, as the UV rays can also harm you when you least expect it: during winter and fall.

Therefore, it’s never a bad idea to carry sunscreen with you or apply a layer before leaving home to protect your skin even when it’s cold, as the sun can peek through the clouds and reflect on surfaces such as water and snow. Snow can actually reflect up to 80% of the sun’s UV, which is why it’s not costless for the skin to walk through winter-wonderland. BONUS: Sunscreen is also a great way to keep your skin hydrated and prevent winter dryness.

Our SPFs are our favorite purse-sized skin-heroes. They all provide the skin with a high level of broad-spectrum protection as well as age-fighting antioxidants. Developed with organic aloe vera to cool, refresh, and hydrate the skin. A true must-have – all year round.
